Orthopedic Oncology Program Overview

The orthopedic department in CCHE is considered one of the very few specialized pediatric orthopedic oncology practices in the Middle East.  Our main concern is the treatment of children diagnosed with malignant bone tumors.

Limb preserving surgery in children is challenging, especially after the improvement in survival of bone sarcomas. This entails us to choose a long lasting reconstructive option and minimize the risk for frequent surgeries as much as possible.

Orthopedic complications in children suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, neuroblastoma and others, are not few and children are frequently referred to our department for care. Osteoporosis, fractures, and avascular necrosis are the most common. Research and treatment are ongoing for these complications.
