Sir Dr. Magdi Yacoub visits Hospital 57357
The fundraising team received yesterday the visit of the eminent cardiac Surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub. Our distinguished guest is establishing a cardiac research center and a hospital for pediatric heart surgeries in Aswan. Lately, he has been frequently traveling back and forth between England and Egypt to conduct surgeries in Cairo and Aswan and to oversee the establishment of the fundraising arm of his project the African Egyptian Foundation for Heart Research. But, his time he was keen to visit Hospital 57357 which, he was informed, is an inevitable destination being the symbol and the example of a sound successful charitable institution established entirely through donations based on highly professional fundraising techniques. Accompanying Sir Magdi, were Mr. Mohamed Shaker, ex-Egyptian Ambassador in London, Dr. Sayed Akl, Heart Physician and Ms Hala Boshra, project Manager at the Sawires Foundation for Social Development. Mr Shaker is chairman of both the Sawires Foundation and Dr. Yacoub’s newly established one. At the end of his tour, Dr. Yacoub declared: “ This is most impressive ……Great achievement in a relatively short time…..” Both he and Dr. Sherif Abou El Naga discussed areas for cooperation between our two institutions. Dr. Yacoub and Mr.Shaker are seeking our valuable experience in fundraising and also exploring the possibility of joint collaboration in the field of research. Both were highly impressed by the state of the art equipment, labs and facilities already existing at hospital 57357 which constitute a solid basis for conducting research. Dr. Yacoub was keen to stress the importance of a dedicated, loyal and continuously trained and nurtured team for the success of any project of such magnitude and with such a noble mission.
